What's a Blaster Box of Sports Cards?

Sports card collectors may run across the term 'blaster box' when reading sports card forums or other content online. Sounds explosive, doesn't it? Actually, it's pretty mundane. Blaster boxes are boxes sold at the retail level (think Target and Walmart) that are smaller in size and price point than the more traditionally packaged sports card boxes that contain a much larger number of unopened packs. Blaster boxes usually sell for $9.99 or $19.99, depending on the brand and number of packs inside the box. Most of the time, the cheaper boxes contain only about six to ten packs. Blaster boxes sometimes don't have any of the higher-valued autograph or memorabilia insert cards found in larger boxes. Blaster boxes are considered a good way to learn a little about a specific sports card issue's design before committing to buy more. You can sometimes buy sports card blaster boxes very cheap online, especially once a product is no longer considered new. While you'll probably be a long way from owning a complete set after buying a blaster box, you will at least know a little more about the card set's design and whether it's worth buying any more. |
