Topps Partners with USA Baseball

By Richard Mueller

The Topps Company and USA Baseball have entered into an exclusive licensing contract that will make Topps the Official Baseball Card of USA Baseball.

Topps will be allowed to utilize USA Baseball trademarks, logos and other intellectual property on its upcoming trading cards that feature players on the US National teams.

It's a reunion of sorts. Topps was the exclusive card manufacturer for USA Baseball from 1984-93 and produced baseball cards of players on the U.S. Olympic Baseball Teams.

The deal allows cards, autographs and game-used equipment of USA Baseball’s Collegiate, 18U and 16U National Team players to be included in a variety of Topps card products each year.

Topps is also the exclusive licensee of both Major and Minor League baseball so it now will be the top distributor at all levels.

USA Baseball annually picks about 60 of the best young baseball players in the country for its national teams. Collectors, then, get the first opportunity to see the future stars of baseball on cards.

Topps has announced that the first product release with USA Baseball players featured will be 2010 Bowman Baseball which will be released in May and feature cards of the 2009 Collegiate National Team and 2009 18U National Team.

The USA Baseball National Teams box set that is issued annually will also be manufactured by Topps under the cotnract. The set is scheduled for a December release in 2010 and beyond.

I used to collect these things. I wonder whet happened to them all...?

Collecting is so much fun, Richard. I think it was a great way to keep kids interactive and learning about sports. Electronic games have taken away a lot of that kid fun.
Thank you for sharing.
Best wishes.
