Gift Ideas for the Sports Collector

Sports fans and collectors love gifts. But as easy as it is to find a great gift, it's also easy to buy the wrong thing. A true sports collector really wants only what he's interested in. A baseball card collector who prefers current year cards isn't going to want the 1987 Topps set you bought for $5 at a flea market. A vintage card collector probably won't want that stack of packs you bought at Target. The most important thing, then, is to know a little something about what the fan on your list collects. Ask a few questions. Chances are he'll appreciate the effort, but he'll love it if you give him something that he really and truly cares about. Buying sports autographs is usually a good thing. Make sure you know what sport or era the collector prefers. Make sure you buy something that's been authenticated by a reputable company (do a few minutes of search engine research for sports memorabilia authentication and you'll find the answer). Yes, it's possible to find real autographs on eBay and usually at a good price. Just be careful. Some collectors like vintage cards and memorabilia. Try buying a gift certificate to eBay so they can shop for what they need..or better yet do the shopping yourself. Buy some nice vintage baseball cards or old packs if that's what your collector likes. Just go armed with the knowledge of what they like in terms of players, eras, teams or sports. |
