Game Used Jerseys Gaining Fans
By Rich Mueller
Do you remember when you were a kid and you collected baseball cards? You opened up that pack of cards hoping to find your favorite player. You chewed that nasty, stale piece of gum as you flipped through the pack of cards. Then you would either put your cards in an old shoe box or you would attach them to your bicycle spokes, trying to sound like a cool motorcycle. Well, collecting today has changed. Sure, people still collect cards, but there’s a new trend in collecting. It’s called the game worn or game used jersey. While having a card with your favorite player on it is nice, it just doesn’t compare to owning a jersey of his that he actually wore in a game. These jerseys can be worth a lot money or they can have great sentimental value as well. What other collectible can get you this close to the game? The player actually wore the jersey while he played in the game. Nothing else can compare to this. Sure, you could get a game-used baseball that was hit by your favorite player. But wouldn’t you rather have the jersey he was wearing when he hit it? Sure, getting a game used jersey can be harder to get than any other form of sports memorabilia. But once you get one, you will be so much more satisfied than if you opened a pack of cards and got the player you wanted. Yes, it’s great to get a ball or a puck that was used in a game, but having the jersey worn by a player who played in the game is so much more interesting and exciting. Having a game used jersey is like owning a piece of the game. If the player ripped it or bled on it, it’s on the jersey and you now own it. You can frame it and hang it on your wall. What a great way to show off your sports memorabilia. A game used jersey is a one of a kind collectible. Nobody else can have the exact same jersey because every time one is worn, something different is happening to it. There is no bat, ball, puck or card that can match the personalization of a jersey that was worn in a game. Whether you actually receive the jersey from the player, or you buy it from a dealer, you have a piece of sports history. It may have dirt from the infield of Wrigley Field on it or grass stains from Heinz Field. That’s the beauty and extraordinary brilliance of collecting game used jerseys. Each one has it’s own story. |

If you could get the date and player's signature on the jersey, that would be a wonderful ONE OF A KIND. Thank you for sharing, Rich. Best wishes. Frederick
