Danica Patrick NASCAR Story Matters

Danica Patrick NASCAR stories and photos are everywhere. With the 2010 NASCAR schedule just beginning, it's a trend that doesn't figure to stop anytime soon. The IndyCar Racing series driver is about to become the first female NASCAR driver, even if it's only on a limited schedule. Her first event, the Nationwide race at Daytona, ended with her being part of a seven-car crash. Not a great start but here's why Danica matters to NASCAR. Since the death of Dale Earnhardt, NASCAR has been struggling to find itself. Still popular, the sport has lost some of its luster because it hasn't found a replacement for one of its icons. Not that putting Danica Patrick photos all over its tracks would be the answer. She's yet to prove anything. But NASCAR is a sport built on personalities. Fans love their favorite drivers for a myriad of different reasons. Patrick is spunky and outspoken. She's a personality, even if victories haven't come in bunches in her big time career yet. She's not there for her looks. Patrick has prove in the IRL that she can drive and chances are she'll be fine as a competitor in NASCAR. As the first female in a male-dominated, once redneck sport, Patrick could bring a new dynamic of fan. There have been plenty of women who follow NASCAR, but Patrick could bring in even more. She'll also be watched by men who either support or can't stand the fuss over her. Jimmie Johnson has proven to be a big time star, but his incredible run of points championships has threatened to turn NASCAR into a dynasty...and that's something the sport doesn't need since Johnson's upbeat nature makes it hard to root against him. He needs a rival...or at least someone to shake things up a bit. Danica Patrick NASCAR mania hasn't hit yet. But her arrival gives the sport a jolt of electricity it sorely needs. |

Danica Patrick will definitely add more family interest to the sport, Richard.
The venues are large and more people can enjoy the experience, as opposed to a baseball game.
